Ideal viewing

With 72,327 seats, the stadium has the largest spectator capacity in Japan. All the seats are individually sectioned with 90cm of space between rows, so spectators can sit back and enjoy the games in comfort. To ensure that spectators do not miss any of the drama, large screens are installed on both Side Stands for instant replays of outstanding plays and scores. Additionally, the sound coming from the 528 loudspeakers adds emotion and excitement to the game. Three quarters of the seating area is covered by a large roof.

Able to travel 100 meters in seven seconds, it can move with athletes and provide dynamic scenes of their play.

Unification of the seats and the field

	The Upper Stand overhangs the Lower Stand by 10m, thereby reducing the distance between the seats and the field.
	The Upper Stand has an incline of 30 degrees to give the spectators the best possible view.
	The front row is positioned 75cm above the level of the field to give spectators a ringside seat for watching the track and field competitions at the same level as the athletes.

Ideal playing conditions

Our greatest pride is of course, the natural grass. The groundskeepers work hard throughout the year to keep the grass in top condition for playing and take extreme care in planting summer and winter grasses. Other characteristics of the stadium include the positioning of the lights placed to avoid the formation of shadows of the players and the reduced wind effect, thanks to the roof that covers three quarters of the spectator seats.

	There is a structure similar to a flowerpot at the depth of 80cm under the grass, and under it there is a hollow space.
	At the depth of 30cm, there are pipes of hot water that help to regulate temperature.

Athletes and spectators at the same level

The front row is situated 75cm above the level of the field so that the athletes sense the spectators near them.(generally 2m)

	The lights are placed so as to avoid the formation of shadows of the players.
	In professional football, the nighttime lighting is 1,500-lux, 2,000-lux in front of the goals.

The roof covering three quarters of the spectators' seats considerably reduces the effect of the wind.

Ideal news reporting facilities

There are coaxial and optical fiber cables installed among the broadcast rooms, the relay van parking and the parabolic antenna site in order to make any radio or TV broadcasts possible without the need for wiring the facilities. The 288 seats for press are protected from the rain by a movable roof, and it is possible to send and receive data by connecting faxes and computers to the jacks provided. Additionally, and responding to the demands of the press companies, we have been improving the information infrastructure to make it even easier and more practical to use.

	Besides ideal camera positions to capture the best of the football and athletics competitions, there are coaxial and optical fiber cables installed among the broadcast rooms, in the production compound and in the parabolic antenna site.
	There are coaxial cables for electrical microwave transmission between the highest part of the stand and the production compound for satellite transmission.
	It is possible to send and receive data by fax or computer on all the 288 press seats.

Besides a press lounge and rooms for the press, there is an interview room accommodating 350 journalists at a time.

	With a total length of 146m, it has a movable and a static part.
	It can extend to as much as 5.5m, covering all of the press and VIP seats.

Friendly to people and the environment

There are 147 permanent seats for wheelchairs. If necessary, it is possible to have as many as 632 wheelchair places using seats designed specially for this purpose. Water for flushing the toilets and other facilities is a combination of rainwater collected from the roof and treated and recycled waste water. The roof and the walls are fitted up with sound-absorbing panels and all the lights are placed under the roof so as to avoid the emission of light to the outside.

	Rain water collected in the roof is used to sprinkle the grass in the filed.

Overview

It took 2 years and 2 months for design and 3 years and 9 months for construction to complete this world-class stadium. The pillars, beams and floors were manufactured in 24 different plants throughout Japan, and were assembled at the construction site in less time using new technologies. The total cost was about 60.3 billion yen.
