Stadium Overview

The 7-story, 52-meter high Nissan Stadium is the main facility in Shin-Yoko Park. This 16.4 hectare (40.5 acre) park also includes Nissan Water Park, an aquatic facility housed on the first floor of the stadium itself, the adjacent Nissan Field Kozukue soccer field, and about a dozen other playing fields for various sports and activity spaces for the local community.

The spectator stands are on two levels, accessed from the 4th and 7th floors. Apart from the very front of the lower stand, all seats are protected from the weather (unless wind blows the rain in). The pitch, although not covered, is recognized as one of the best in the world for its all-weather capability. There is no provision for standing spectators; all seating is chair-type. The stadium is non-smoking throughout.

Nissan Stadium or International Stadium Yokohama?

The construction of the stadium cost the equivalent of over half a billion USD. To help recoup the expense, the stadium is made available not only for sporting events, but for concerts as well. To further raise money, naming rights were sold to Nissan Motors in 2005, since when it has been known as Nissan Stadium. However, "clean stadium" rules mean that when international tournaments take place here, it reverts to its original name: "International Stadium Yokohama." Also, at such time, signs in the stadium bearing the sponsor's name are obscured.
