Yes, you can. I would recommend finding roads that are pretty smooth. Porsche is actually pretty good at building extreme performance cars that can still be streetable, but it's not to everyone's taste to actually use them in this way.

The biggest difference between 997.1 and 997.2 is associated with engines and transmissions. The Gen2 997 benefitted from Porsche's DFI technology (Direct fuel injection.) This allowed fuel to be pumped directly into the combustion chamber, allowing the air/fuel mix to form directly in the chamber.

The production numbers also have a certain influence. There were simply more than twice as many 997.1s. 15,146 Carrera and 35,570 Carrera S models in the 997.2 compare to 34,401 Carrera and 73,496 Carrera S models before the facelift.

It's not intended for everyday use, it's intended for B road blasts and track days, but you could of course use one every day. I used an Elise as my only car every day for 4 happy years and loved every mile, and a GT3 is more practical than that and with lower NVH.

The 2011 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0-liter was the big dog in the RS hunt, with 500 hp. It was even lighter and more finely tuned. Just 600 were made, 157 arriving in North American garages. These are the rarest and best-performing of all GT3 RSs and, along with the 3.8-liter, also the last of the manual-shift GT3 RS models.
