Congregational Meeting June 9th, 2024 - Palomar Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (1)

Mark your calendars! Our annual Congregational Meeting will be held Sunday June 9, 2024 at 12:00 (or as soon as we can get folks checked in!). This is an all hands on deck meeting where we have the privilege of gathering together to engage in the democratic process to govern our beloved Fellowship. A quorum of members is required to vote on our new Executive Board, Committee on Ministry, and Nominating Committee members and to approve our 2024/2025 budget. Biographies for all nominees are below as are the proposed budget and meeting agenda. You will also hear reports from Palomar Fellowship leadership on the state of our congregation.

If you are unable to attend, please ask a member who will be in attendance to carry your proxy. Any member may carry one proxy allowing them to cast a vote on your behalf. Proxies must be signed by a board member to be valid so please plan ahead. The proxy form is linked here or you can find them on Sunday morning at the Welcome Table.

If you are not a Palomar Fellowship member you are welcome (encouraged!) to attend. You just won’t be eligible to vote.

It is no secret that Palomar Fellowship is operating a deficit budget (~ $99,000 this year). We know this is anxiety producing for all of us and we will be talking more about this at the Congregational Meeting. The shortfall will be addressed in the coming year through a combination of reserves, interest on reserves, and fundraising and membership development.

The precious time this budget affords us with Interim Minister, Rev. Shelly Thompson is an investment in our future. In addition to much needed day to day ministry, pastoral care, an administrative hand on the rudder, and Sunday worship, we will spend this time working together with Rev. Shelly to craft and implement a plan for our faithful, relational, and sustainable future together.

In peace ~

Nominating Committee : Phil Comer

Dani and I have attended UU congregations over the years serving on boards, group creation and leadership. I have also previously served briefly onthe Palomar Board .
In my working life as a manager, finding the most qualified person for a position was my most important function.
Recruiting and hiring new people constituted some of my worst mistakes;
but there were many other personnel choices, where new hires injected fresh life into ways to do things at our company.
We have been a member of Palomar UU for about fives years and it would seem we have found our spiritual home. Currently I am attending multiple Palomar groups which has helped me get to know many of you. In summary, while fairly new to Palomar, I will continue to get to know as many of
you as possible.

Scott led the building of the Labyrinth in 2017, and initiated the on-site Circle Suppers earlier this year. Scott enjoys playing bass and guitar with EKG and the Love Wranglers, and hosting the Sing-Along auction offering in the spring. From 1995 to 2015, Scott and Aleta were members of UU Church of Fresno, where Scott served on the Board and on two ministerial search committees, and played guitar in the house band. Scott recently retired after a 30+ year career in air quality management. He looks forward to working with the Board and congregation to carry out the Fellowship’s mission.

She chaired the search committee for the Director of Religious Exploration in 2012, was the Telescope newsletter publisher for several years, served two terms as Board Secretary, and took up the organization of the Fellowship’s Resolution on Gun Violence Prevention.
