The University of Toledo, in partnership with The Blade, is excited to host another installment of their innovative Perspectives series. This time, they're tackling the fascinating and sometimes bewildering realm of artificial intelligence (AI) – think of it as computer systems designed to mimic human intelligence, from recognizing patterns in data to making decisions autonomously. On Wednesday, October 15, at 6 p.m., head to UToledo's Doermann Theatre for 'Perspectives: The Impact and Implications of Artificial Intelligence.' Here, a stellar lineup of experts will weigh in on the bright possibilities and the real worries that come with AI's rapid advancements.
Guiding the conversation will be David Shribman, a renowned Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and former executive editor of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. His syndicated work has made him a go-to voice for insightful commentary on current events.
The panel features five distinguished speakers, each bringing unique insights:
• Jeremy Gilbert, who delves into how emerging technologies like AI are reshaping journalism and media. As the Knight Chair in Digital Media Strategy at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, he examines practical tools and strategies that are transforming how we consume and produce news.
• Dr. William McCreary, UToledo's chief information officer and chief technology officer, who leads efforts to harness AI through collaborations and cutting-edge projects, ensuring the university stays at the forefront of technological innovation.

Launched in 2024 by UToledo and The Blade, the Perspectives series brings together top national experts with local UToledo specialists to discuss pressing issues in engaging, accessible ways. This event fits right into a lineup of campus happenings building up to the inauguration of Dr. James Holloway as UToledo's 19th president on Thursday, October 16, at 3 p.m. in Savage Arena.
