Is eTSI better than TSI? ›

The result of these features is a car that is significantly more economical than a conventional TSI engine. But the eTSI system also offers improved drivability, especially in stop-and-go traffic in urban areas.

While the EPA has not yet issued official estimates for the 2025 Golf R, the outgoing 2024 Golf R with the dual-clutch automatic earned EPA estimates of 23 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

The Focus is better equipped, but can't match the VW's extremely strong residuals, great-value servicing pack and diesel-like economy. Factor in the superior practicality, top-notch quality and class-leading refinement, and the Golf takes a narrow win.

The TSI engine is a single-scroll turbocharger design, while the TFSI engine uses a twin-scroll turbocharger. This difference results in different performance characteristics for the two engines. The TSI engine is more efficient and has better throttle response than the TFSI engine.

In general, just feels easier to get the performance out of the TDI. TSI - when idling, nice and quiet, no vibration in the vehicle. When revved hard, gets very noisy compared to the TDI. TDI - when idling a little vibration can be felt but is really quiet for a diesel inside the cabin.
